SXSW

Introduction
The South by Southwest (SXSW) Conferences and Festivals offer the unique convergence of original music, independent films, and emerging technologies. Fostering creative and professional growth alike, SXSW is the premier destination for discovery. Year after year, the event is a launching pad for new creative content. New media presentations, music showcases and film screenings provide buzz-generating exposure for creators and compelling entertainment for audiences. Conference panel discussions present a forum for learning, business activity thrives at the Trade Shows and global networking opportunities abound.

Plus it all happens in Austin, Texas the music capital of the US.

The BMF and UK Trade & Investment South West will be at Canadian Music Week, in New York and in Austin for SXSW 2010.

The deadline for all applications to perform at SXSW was 6th November 09

Attending SXSW as a delegate is an open process with no deadlines but application to our mission is now closed.

Download the original mission flyer for details here

The mission to SXSW offers support before and at the event, discount and trade registration, participation in the main UK delegation at the event and on the UK trade stand, inclusion in the UK guide that goes to all delegates, and much more. Please see below and the flyer for details.

There is a limited of 20 places on the mission so act now.

The mission is an open programme with no set deadline, however we are unlikely to take applications after 19th February 2010.

Funding
If you have been invited to perform at SXSW and you are looking to accept the offer and head over in March then there are one or two funding options available to apply for.

The main grant is through the PRS Foundation and is the British Music Abroad scheme. The deadline for this grant for SXSW 2010 has now passed.

This is a limited grant made available by British Underground and funded by the PRS Foundation with UK Trade & Investment and the Arts Council. The grant can cover up to 75% of your costs. It is only available for performers, not general delegates. On average the grant is big enough in total to support no more than 20 artists from across the UK.

The grant is also available for other overseas activity to SXSW.
All details can be found by clicking here

The deadline for applications for a grant for SXSW was 4th December 09.

If you are unsuccessful with an application to British Music Abroad then you can apply for a grant to cover 50% of your costs through the BMF and UK Trade & Investment trade mission. This is a European Union ERDF grant. With ERDF funding you have to incur expenditure first and then submit a claim for a 50% rebate after your visit, so you will have to fund the activity yourself initially.
You can though use the information you submitted for your British Music Abroad application to apply for an ERDF grant.
Contact international@bristolmusicfoundation.com to discuss.

You can also apply for a grant to cover 50% of your costs through the BMF and UKTI if you aim to attend as a delegate only.
