Drumscapes live sampling multi percussion performances. Using a range of percussion instruments, vocal percussion & live sampling ( also known as live looping ), Jon creates live multi - percussion rhythmic soundscapes - Drumscapes. Combining acoustic percussion, vocal percussion & live audio processing, Drumscapes range from highly energised rhythmical journeys to atmospheric percussion soundscapes. All instruments are played, sampled and processed live on stage. Tabla, Riq, Daf, Cajon & vocal percussion contribute to original and unique rhythmic journeys which draw from traditional Indian & Middle Eastern rhythms infused with a contemporary and innovative delivery. Using real time audio processing to create effects such as drones from percussion, new sounds evolve from the mix as the acoustic becomes the electronic. Indian music performances with Jon Sterckx - Tabla & Ricky Romain - Sitar. Tabla tuition & Indian music workshops. Jon Sterckx (Tabla) & Ricky Romain (Sitar) have been regularly performing Indian music together since 2001 and have developed a strong performance rapport between them. Their shared understanding and appreciation of North Indian music is always apparent within their performances, as is their mutual enjoyment of each others playing, and of the music being created through their combined playing. Through the sound world of North Indian Rag and Taal, Ricky & Jon's highly engaging and dynamic performances range from slow, meditative, melodies through to fast and highly detailed exciting rhythmical interplay. " . . .The brilliant sitar of Ricky Romain in duet with Jon Sterckx's tabla wizardry was a first class example of musicians "playing off" each other, their evident joy never becoming indulgent, and never compromising the aims of the music. . . ." - Colin Sell.
