We are a registered charity, existing since about 1993.At the heart of our annual summer festival is a core of three new site-specific opera productions, produced in the round in the tiny cloister which is our venue. Key regular conductors are Christian Curnyn (Early Opera Company) and Oliver Gooch. We regularly work with Chroma Ensemble and have recently developed with them a programme of educational work in Trowbridge and Bath. We also promote Jazz musicians (eg.Tim Kliphuis who has just recorded a DVD in the cloister), and world and folk-influenced bands as a regular part of the festival. We are always interested in approaches from possible performers in any of our genres. We receive no public funding but have managed to build a strong reputation for the high quality and intimate impact of our work.

Our unique selling point is the other-worldly beauty of the setting at Iford. All music, whatever genre, is programmed with this in mind. Thus opera productions are always sung in English as subtle communication is more possible in our venue. High quality chamber-scale work is the only option in the intimate cloister – which has a fantastic acoustic. (We would love to send our opera productions to other venues where they would work in the round but we are too thin on the ground to be able to resource this at present- which is a shame.)
We have a commitment to young musicians of all genres, and whenever possible include them in our programming. We are particularly interested in offering early evening performance slots to local young performers at our ‘Proms’ series: relaxed, informal picnic and music events where they will perform alongside artists of national calibre.
