South West Music Workshop
01.00PM - 04:00PM | Free
Albemarle Centre
The music industry is one of the fastest growing cultural sectors in the South West, and contributes significantly to local and regional economies.
Following developments in networking, such as Spotify, Myspace and Twitter, the availability of information and promotional activities, along with a renewed interest, music has never been higher on the cultural agenda.
With this in mind the South West Music Forum, along with a range of partners are looking to develop a single strategic approach to the music industry within the South West. The aim would be to determine what provisions are already available, and then develop ways of moving things forward.
Before any work gets done we would like to invite you to a music development workshop, looking at the music industry in the South West and highlighting any key areas that are felt could be covered by such a strategy.
We are also keen to learn of any existing music based activity in the region, as well as speaking to anyone who has developed a county or district music strategy.
A focus on music provision for young people and those from deprived backgrounds will form part of this work, as well as a look at case studies. We would also like to look at the use of music to aid skills based learning within the justice system, the role of music in education and the use of music based skills that assist the long term unemployed back into work. Accessible music projects that aid disabled people – such as music for the Deaf will also be included in this work.
This workshop is open to anyone working within the music industry, local authority arts officers, or anyone within county or district music services.
By identifying, and addressing key areas of provision in the region, and seeking opportunities to help develop new links, networks, support organisations and other initiatives, we are confident that we can achieve a more sustainable music sector.
Please email info@bristolmusicfoundation.com if you would like to attend.
