Sing Songs of Freedom - the music of Paul Robeson

Colston Hall
Paul Robeson was a legendary singer, actor and civil rights activist. Known all over the world for his rendition of Ol’ Man River, he also introduced folk songs and spirituals to the concert platform, and sang in many languages to unite people against injustice, prejudice and oppression.
Ken Burton is principal conductor of the London Adventist Choral. A regular on Songs of Praise and an adjudicator for BBC¹s Choir of the Year, Ken also arranged choral music for the Prom at the Palace and the Concert for Diana, live from Wembley Stadium. Ken¹s musical activities are experienced world-wide through performances, broadcasts and recordings and he is passionate about sharing his musical journey through participation.
This workshop is a unique opportunity for singers of all ages and experience to join in singing some of Robeson¹s memorable repertoire, with an acclaimed expert in spiritually uplifting vocal music.
Part of the Recalling Robeson in Bristol project produced by Harvest Heritage Arts and Media at venues across the city between 18th May and 6th June 2009. Sing Songs of Freedom is supported by Colston Hall.
