SUMMARY:Brrism
DESCRIPTION:BRRISM is "Brrizzle" speak for Bristol Social Media but you don't need to speak Brizzle to attend. In fact, we welcome any blogger/social media geek/website publisher/ journalist/writer/musician/artist...
Brrism7 takes place on 17th March at the Pervasive Media Studio and we've got some interesting social media related topics to discuss. As usual we're using our short presentation/long discussion format (5 minutes from each of the presenters followed by a 45 minute "open space" style discussion where you are free to join whatever groups you are interested in).
Connecting Bristol
Creating a world-class Digital City Connectivity, Technology and Media are the cornerstones of a prosperous and ambitious city like Bristol. These three ‘Digital Elements’ enable the city to, do more business; to present a modern face to the outside world; and to engage effectively with local citizens and communities. Bristol already has a wealth of digital expertise and talent, in private and public sectors, in academia and in our communities. However, we believe that Bristol and the city region can reap wider benefits from this success if we adopt an approach based on "open" "green" and "social" innovation. This talk will explore what this might look like in practice-Stephen Hilton (Connecting Bristol; Bristol City Council’s Digital City Partnership)
Search in the Stream
How Live Content is changing Search Social Media has not only changed the way that web content is generated but it has also changed the way in which web content is found. This session centres around the realisation that the web is now a stream and that content is now fragmented, distributed and much more real-time than it once was. What are the new rules? How can we exploit new content types and surf the stream-Justin Gale.
Internet Classics
A group is its own worst enemy The internet isn't that old but its old enough to have its "classics"-i.e. articles (or blog posts) that have passed the tests of time and are still being cited long after their writing. These articles deserve to be brought to the attention of a new audience and discussed in 2010. We're starting off with an article that was written 7 years ago which, in internet time, was eons ago. Its called "A Group is its own worst enemy", its by Clay Shirky and it talks about group dynamics, specifically group dynamics in the context of social software-Michael Corbett (founder of Bristol Social Media)

PLACES MUST BE BOOKED IN ADVANCE, WHEN CORRECT COURSE RUNNING TIMES WILL BE CONFIRMED
Developing Multiplatform Ideas
19-21 March 2010, plus 7 weeks online
What is multiplatform? What makes a strong multiplatform project? How can you develop great cutting edge ideas, then frame and pitch them to get commissions?
Richard Williams (Head of Multiplatform Productions at BBC Vision) will equip you to face current industry challenges during a 2-day residential, followed by 7 weeks of part-time supported learning online.
Develop your understanding of the multiplatform world (broadcast, online, gaming and mobile)-new opportunities and trends, shifts in audience behaviours, developments in technologies and content, emerging development processes and current commissioning needs.
Generate, develop and pitch your own multiplatform ideas. This intensive opportunity allows you to develop an individual project with hands-on support from industry experts-an idea you have in development, or a new response to a current commissioning brief. With just 8-14 participants, we can respond to your specific needs and help you work towards that powerful pitch.
Breathe. Take a weekend break from the daily grind and learn new techniques to maximise creativity and generate fresh ideas. Stimulate your business with invaluable networking opportunities and precious space for collaboration and inspiration.
Do all this while keeping up the day job-anywhere, anytime. Work around your existing commitments and use our flexible online programme to embed your learning directly into your business activities.
This new course is aimed at experienced producers and creatives (television, film, music, commercials, publishing and other specialisms) who want to develop their understanding of multiplatform.
You should have at least two years' professional experience in media production. The course advances rapidly, so you will need to be up to speed with existing production methods. No existing knowledge of multiplatform production is required.
The course is accredited by Skillset as a Skillset Media Academies' CPD Short Course. You can take just one course or you can work towards a qualification. This could be a Postgraduate Certificate (3 accredited courses like this), a Postgraduate Diploma (6 accredited courses) or an MA in Professional Media Practice (6 short courses and a more in depth MA project module).
Cost: £800 per participant (not including a Skillset bursary)

SUMMARY:International Music Summit (IMS)
DESCRIPTION:The International Music Summit returns to Ibiza on the last week of May, for its third annual gathering.
The event was created by BBC Radio 1's Pete Tong and leading professionals, to help re-set the agenda for electronic music culture and is now renowned for its high level of debate, and this year will see feature a keynote from Mark Ronson, amongst many other high profile panelists.
IMS 2010 takes place again on the week before the opening parties of the Ibiza season, with both PACHA and SPACE opening the weekend post the event.
Leading electronic artists and representatives of some of the world’s biggest brands are among those confirmed to speak at the third International Music Summit with superstar producer, DJ and artist Mark Ronson confirmed to appear in the headline keynote interview.
Commandeering the entire five-star Ibiza Gran Hotel, IMS creates an intimate atmosphere where artists such as the 2010 Grammy Award winner David Guetta can meet with notable business leaders such as Frank Mertens, Global Director of Creative Development Sprite / Coca-Cola Group and Konrad Von Loeheysen, the owner of Ministry of Sound Germany / Motor FM.
In her first dance music event appearance, the world-renowned music supervisor Alexandra Patsavas will feature in a one-on-one interview about her work and company Chop Shop. Patsavas is supervisor on TV shows The OC, Grey's Anatomy, Private Practice, Mad Men and Gossip Girl plus the Twilight film.
Guetta appears on a panel titled Big Dog DJs: F*** You We're Famous, named after his legendary weekly party in Ibiza, alongside Erick Morillo from Subliminal Records, Luciano-the underground star and boss of label Cadenza Records. IMS founder and BBC Radio 1 DJ Pete Tong will moderate.
In Meet The Future, BBC Radio 1 DJ Annie Mac, who recently swapped shows with Tong to open the countdown to the weekend, will outline her vision for electronic music alongside the likes of Pedro Winter aka Busy P, former manager of Daft Punk and boss of Ed Banger Records. Joining them is DJ Skream, remixer of the moment.
In another panel USA Today: Boom Boom Now!, IMS will hear from both those behind dance music’s recent explosion in the states, including Patrick Moxey from Ultra Records, Eddie Dean from Pacha New York and original American dance architect Arthur Baker, and also from dissenting voices like Tommie Sunshine who recently stated: "There is NO room for dance music in America. It will never happen. Not real dance music, anyway". The panel will be moderated by KCRW music director and presenter Jason Bentley, who last year received the first IMS Pioneer Award.
In Ibiza United, IMS will bring together the key players behind Amnesia, Eden, Es Paradis, Pacha, Privilege and Space on one panel for just the second time ever. This panel will be moderated by Juan Suarez, one of the chiefs of the powerful local newspaper, Diario De Ibiza.
In addition, IMS has teamed up with leading consumer portal Resident Advisor, whose audience will select a topic and speakers for the Presidential Debate format which debuted in 2009 to great acclaim.
Once again the IMS Grand Finale will take place at the UNESCO World Heritage Site in Dalt Vila on Friday May 28. Last year, Basement Jaxx headlined with Pete Tong, Rob da Bank and Filthy Dukes in support. IMS has been with requests from artists to perform at this landmark event. The headline acts will be announced imminently. The event is free to attend for all delegates of the IMS, with some 2,000 tickets available to the public.
