CRUSHING THE GREAT NORTH SOUTH DIVIDE

The BMF return to Brighton for the Great Escape 2010 No Description

Following hosting a day of talks plus a party at the Great Escape 2009, the BMF will be back in Brighton with our friends from the North East Generator to showcase artists from the South West and support businesses heading from the region to the essential international music industry convention held in the UK.

The Great Escape has established itself as the leading event in Europe for showcasing new talent from around the world, aimed at ‘export ready’ bands and Industry Professionals. TGE takes place in Brighton, UK over three days and nights every May with a total attendance of over 10,000 people including 3,000 industry professionals.

Our partnership with the Great Escape is part of our work with UK Trade & Investment South West to support business to business opportunities for the South West music industry and the best showcasing opportunities to the international music industry for South West artists.

We arrive in Brighton following our trip to Austin Texas for SXSW 2010 with a delegation of artists and businesses from the South West.

With Generator we will be hosting a Scrumpy & Brown Ale party in the Dome in Brighton on Fri 14th May from 6 til 7pm with live music from Jackie Oates and Nadine Shah

And, we will be joined at the party on 14th May by our friends at A Greener Festival who will be launching their Festivals Harvest CD showcasing some of the best emerging talent from across the UK.

Then on Saturday 15th May we will be hosting the Crushing the Great North South Divide afternoon showcase with some of the best artists from the South West and North East at the Queens Hotel in Brighton from 1 til 4pm.

Plus Kill It Kid from Bath and Fitness Club Fiasco from Bristol will be playing live around Brighton on Thurs 13th May.

We will hold a panel Developing the Nation with UK Music on Fri 14th May in the Dome.

UK Music recently published ‘Liberating Creativity’, a critical report on music in the UK and a vision for future collaboration between industry and both national and local government. The BMF have published their strategy for South West music, ‘Unlocking Potential’, and Generator just secured a significant round of funding to support music in the North East. In a time of increasing uncertainty around investment in artist and business development in music, the two leading exponents of Music Development in the UK, Generator and the Bristol Music Foundation, host a panel to discuss their work, how it connects to UK Music, and the growing influence of this seldom recognised but increasingly important area of the Music Industry.
Speakers will be Jim Mawdsley – Generator, Matt BoothBMF / Music South West, Ben Challis – 3A Ents / Music South West, Feargal Sharkey – UK Music, Tony WadsworthBPI / Generator
